Why we exist
The supplement industry is worth over $50 billion — and most of the information out there is produced by the companies selling the products. That creates an obvious problem: how do you know what actually works?
SupplementScout was built to be the resource we wished existed. Every guide we publish starts with the clinical research, not the marketing claims. We compare forms, dosages, and brands with the same rigor you'd expect from a medical reference — but written in plain language anyone can understand.
Our editorial process
Every article on SupplementScout follows a consistent research process:
1. Literature review. We start by reviewing published clinical studies, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews from databases like PubMed and the Cochrane Library. We prioritize randomized controlled trials and note when evidence is limited or conflicting.
2. Product analysis. For "best of" and comparison articles, we analyze the supplement facts panels of leading products. We check dosages against clinically effective amounts, verify third-party testing certifications (NSF, USP, ConsumerLab), and flag proprietary blends or questionable additives.
3. Clear recommendations. We don't hedge with "it depends on the individual" when the research points in a clear direction. Our goal is to give you the most useful answer possible, with appropriate caveats when evidence is genuinely mixed.
How we make money
SupplementScout is reader-supported. Some of our articles contain affiliate links — when you click through and buy a product, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund our research and keep the site running.
Importantly: affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We recommend products based on research and testing first, then check if affiliate links are available. If the best product doesn't have an affiliate program, we recommend it anyway.
What we don't do
We don't accept paid placements or sponsored reviews. We don't sell supplements. We don't provide medical advice — our guides are for informational purposes and shouldn't replace consultation with a healthcare provider. And we don't make health claims that aren't supported by published research.
